An integrated art scheme for a brand new £27 million young people’s mental health centre in Northumberland. Ferndene provides inpatient assessment and treatment for young people with complex health, behavioural and emotional needs and is the first such integrated service of its kind in the country. The artworks, in a variety of materials, run throughout the centre from the entrance gates to the bedroom windows, café and courtyards. The overall scheme developed with Medical Architecture provides a supportive atmosphere with positive calming distractions. The centre’s young patients were involved in poetry workshops, which informed the natural theme of the art strategy.
