I am delighted to share my latest sculptural piece for Monkwearmouth Hospital. The Healing Tree is a hanging sculpture, which aims to bring a calming and natural element to the hospital environment, creating a healing atmosphere for patients, visitors, and staff. I was inspired by the history of the hospital site in which the ash tree features heavily. Also, throughout history, the ash tree has been associated with healing properties. In this artwork, 32 ash leaves hang in the atrium space to represent the opening of Monkwearmouth Hospital in 1932, as well as the connection of ash trees to the site, and to honour the hospital as a place of healing.

Exploring old manuscripts and artefacts can be a transformative experience, where the stories of the past can awaken a new creative spark within us. The intricate details, craftsmanship, and history embedded in the archives of the York Minster Library provided some wonderful inspiration for me today, including a unique glimpse into a 16th Century Book of Hours and a beautiful bible given to the then Archbishop of York by King Charles I. Over the coming months, I will be using some of these objects to inform my practice, in particular, the design of some window film manifestation.
